Surprisingly, the fins increase the vertical relative displacement. As mentioned
previously, the temperature of the lower shell sidewall is slightly higher, partially
compensating for its reduction in the upper sidewall. However, the increase in stiffness
provided by the fins acting as reinforcement is the most important factor. The
reduction in plastic deformation is also significant, as seen in Figure 7 (also refer to
Figure 3 to compare with the base case). The most effective measure is therefore using
forced-air cooling.
